Best of 2006 - Records

It's that time of the year. Every one is publishing his/her personal list, and every one includes me.

Here it is, my top 15 records of 2006:

15- The Thermals: The Body, The Blood, The Machine
Obscure maniac indie/indie-punk record. None the less an inspired and inspiring, album with a lot of thought... on a facist Christian government - we don't care.

14- Figurines - Skeleton
Surprising 90's Indie rock from Danish rock band... hum, danish.

13- The Loved Ones - Keep Your Heart
The guys from The Loved Ones were involved/managing/organizing shows in Philly before you were born. And it shows on their solid Fat Wreck debut.

12- Alexisonfire - Crisis
Despite shooting a real bad video for "Boiled Frog", the song and the entire album are fierce, aggressive and intense.

11- Moneen - The Red Tree
The band's most mature effort so far, expanding Moneen's unconstructed horizons while preserving the band dynamic high/low sound arrangments.

10- Built To Spill - You In Reverse
One band is finally bringing back 8 minutes long songs with a 4 minutes guitar riff in the middle.

9- Mobile - Tomorrow starts today
Everyone has its own guilty pleasure. Just don't tell your guy friends.

8- Magneta Lane - Dancing with Daggers
All female - and sexy - Canadian trio brings back original rock and proves that MSTRKRFT can produce albums with something else than noises.

7- Set Your Goals - Mutiny!
Positive blend of engaged hardcore and pop, Bay-Area kids deliver a highly enjoyable first effort.

6- Malajube - Trompe l'oeil
Montreal indie-rockers arranged eclectic sounds in the best, most unexpected francophone record of 2006.

5- The Lawrence Arms - Oh! Calcutta!
Straight up punk record from Chicago's trio: Energetic, aggressive and a bit on the sentimental side. No worries, duel vocals won't make you look like a wuss.

4- Ignite - Our Darkest Days
After more tha 6 years of waiting, Ignite was back in 2006 with the best hardcore record of the year.

3- The Sounds - Dying to say this to you
This one came out of the left field. If by left field you mean 80's Swedish synth-pop.

2- The Bouncing Souls - The Gold Record
It's 20 years later and NJ punk veterans prove they can still deliver fresh melodic punk better than any of the youngsters out there.

1- The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America
While all college frat boys are listening to John Mayer, the real drunk/stoned party happens here. For cool kids only.

2006 wasn't so bad after all.
