Keepin' busy

Another new release straight outta Sweden. Another release from a Millencolin member. After releasing Kingwood in 2005 and touring extensively, Front man Nikola Sarcevic recently released his second album, Drummer Fredrik Larzon is working with Swedish HC act Kvoteringen and Guitarist Erik Ohlsson is working on pretty much everything that can be designed or edited on a computer (from websites to skateboard decks). This leaves with Guitarist Mathias Färm, who is about to release his first album as lead singer of his new project.

Franky Lee. Straight up skate-punk like only our Swedish friends know how to do it. The first video has been up for a couple hours.



As you can see, Millencolin is keepin' busy.

Pop-Punk like it should be

I have stopped watching MTV. First because they barely play music videos anymore and second, they are pretty much forcing trends to a generation of zombies. Every minute on-air is another bullet to the head of our culture. Let the kids research and make an idea for themselves. Stop marketing the latest boy band as refreshing pop-punk or emo. And please, Rights (not Rites) of Spring and Taking Back Sunday? The more said, the more I die inside (here, I did my part). 1994 marked the release of Dookie and Smash, and every thing went downhill from there. Next thing you know it's 10 years later, Good Charlotte's wearing makeup, Simple Plan is making 12 years old wear all black and wet their pants, and Fall Out Boy have 3 gazillion hits a day on their MySpace.com

Point is, when you do your homeworks, there are a lots of good bands out there. I just received copies of the latest Set Your Goals and The Loved Ones and while I won't do a review, I had to mention - and add video-proofs. While Different, both band have goods rifs, breakdowns, and thank you, Integrity.

The Loved Ones - Jane


Experience do pay off. Before starting a band in 2003, the three members of Philadelphia's The Loved Ones have played for Kid Dynamite, Paint It Black, Trial by Fire and managed Sick of It All and Bouncing Souls. They now work with Fat Wreck Chords and have probably accomplished more than 90% of the other punk bands on major labels.

See, pop-punk is still alive and well, like it should be.

Back to Black and White

No more yellow and blue, and no more cheesy uniforms. Sweden definitely have more to offer than IKEA. Swedish quintet The Sounds recently released the new single, Painted by Numbers, from their 80's-synth-pop sophomore album, Dying to say this to you.



Tres hot video. I'd corner Maja Ivarsson in one of those cubes and would be more than happy to raise one of those 7-feet-tall legs on my shoulder. Any-f*****g-time. Thanks to L. for pointing this one out.

In the same vein, only artsy and passionate instead of sexy and fiery, Regina Spektor has grown as one of my favorite female artist.
